A hide of leather is like a roof. A roof is thick, but it's the thinner top layer shingles that keep the water and dirt out and protect the inside. The tough "shingles" of leather is the grain on the top layer of the hide. But a lot of low level bottom dwelling leather wallet manufacturers shave off the top layer with all of the scars so they can use all of the leather and don't have to cut out the scars and throw the away. It's pure business. But in doing so, they're shaving the shingles off of your house. How stupid is that? They neuter the leather and take away its leatherhood. The toughness it's known for. We only use leather that has the full amount of grain (full grain). When they remove some of the grain, the leather is called top grain leather. When they remove ALL of the grain, it's called genuine or split leather. And they do it just to save leather while taking away the strength, durability and water resistance of the hide. Leather isn't cheap and they don't want to lose the profit from throwing away the leather that has scars and marks on it. They just sand or split it off. 5 years, and still like-new.
I bought my wallet nearly 5 years ago, and not only has it held up well, but it's still in great shape. Once the leather breaks in you don't even notice that you're carrying it in your back pocket. No tearing, no undone stitching, and as good of a wallet as you can get for the price. I will definitely consider Saddleback for future purchases.

Going on 7 years
I was recently asked how long I’ve had “the same wallet” and it prompted me to write a review. I love this wallet. I can fit a credit card, debit/ATM card, and ID on one side. I have a couple insurance cards and a gift card on the other side. Great size for me, and I’m confident that my wallet will outlast me!
